IPG Legal's Korea Practice Team is led by New York attorney Sean HAYES and retired Korean judge SJ KOOK. The Korea Practice Team is assisted by politicians, retired judges, prosecutors, in house attorneys, and senior government officials.
Sean Hayes has lived and worked in Korea for over a decade. He is the first and only non-Korean to have worked as a government attorney for the Korean court system and is one of the first non-Koreans to be a regular member of a Korean law faculty. He is one of only two non-Koreans to be listed as a leading attorney by AsiaLaw, a leading legal publication.
Sean studied a Ph.D at Seoul National University and is regularly quoted by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Star & Stripes and has appeared on CNN, Bloomberg and on Korean news programs. He manages The Korean Law Blog. The blog has been nominated as one of the Top 25 International and Foreign Law Blogs by LexisNexis.
SJ retired as judge after nearly two decades of service to the Korean government. He was a top graduate of the prestigious Seoul National University College of Law and obtained an LL.M. from Columbia Law School. SJ and Sean met when they worked for the Constitutional Court of Korea. The two are the heart and soul of IPG Legal. Their tenacious love for winning has lead some leading companies to their doors. They are retained, often, when it is understood by clients that the ubiquitous local firms are conflicted and, thus, unable to aggressively and proactively represent clients.
The Team has, recently, received a not guilty verdict for an executive of an international defense company, successfully resolved a dispute with a leading Korean conglomerate, assisted in obtaining a countervailing duty against a Korean consumer appliance and localized a significant judgment against a Korean company.
The Korea Practice Team is a full-service team of professionals with significant experience in: Dispute Resolution, Bankruptcy, Corporate law & Compliance, Customs Law, Criminal Law, Defense, Entertainment Law, Franchise Law, Government Relations, Intellectual Property, Immigration, Labor & Employment, Market Entry, FDI, Free Trade Zones, M & A, Real Estate, and Taxation.
